Chinatown Revitalization Plan Kick-off and Walking Tour

On December 5, 2016, the Community Development Department in conjunction with MIG and the neighborhood stakeholders organized the Chinatown Revitalization Plan kick-off to showcase the neighborhood assets and cultural history. The event was composed of two elements, a walking tour and a casual discussion about the planning effort. Over 30 people attended the kick-off event which included City and MIG staff as well as community stakeholders including the Salinas Downtown Community Board (SDCB), Coalition of Homeless Service Providers, Interim Inc., Housing Authority of the County of Monterey, MidPen Housing, Dorothy’s Place, Buddhist Temple, County of Monterey Department of Social Services, CSUMB, Public Works, Victory Mission, Republic Café, Ralph’s Auto Repair and Gutierrez Drive-in.Same format as Vision Salinas and Alisal Vibrancy Plan.

April 18th Pop-Up Activity Outside City Hall

Chinatown Asian Festival

Save the Date! Saturday April 29, 2017. The Chinatown Asian Festival will celebrate the district’s unique historic cultural lineage with food, activities, and the now famous dancing lions. The event will be an important opportunity to begin public input on the future vision for Chinatown.

Chinatown Revitalization Plan’s Working Group and TAC Meetings

The Chinatown Revitalization Plan’s Working Group(s) and Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) meetings took place on April 5, 2017. These committees will help guide and advise the planning program as it proceeds through its various stages of development.
